Today’s passage of Scripture reminds us of the line from Jesus all the way back to Adam, and the incredible heritage that this line of people represents! Michael makes sure to remind us that this line of people also represents a line of sin, a line that carries past them onto all people, even to us today. Jesus changed the dynamic and now we have the ability to live for a Kingdom purpose. We can know that our sin-filled lives have been redeemed!
If there is one recurring portion of the Bible that people seem to consistently skip over, it would be the part of Scripture we will be looking at today: genealogy. Michael isn’t going to let us get away with jumping ahead today, however! While studying the lineage of Jesus, we will encounter interesting stories, history we may have forgotten about, and learn thought-provoking facts about Jewish history and the writing of the Gospels. Don’t worry; today’s message will be anything but boring!
Michael brings up a good point in today’s message: as Christians we can find ourselves falsely thinking that we will reap comfortable rewards from our service to God. But why is this false? The Bible never promises we will live comfortable, trouble free lives! In fact, the most likely outcome will be that we will see hardship and face discouragement when we follow God! But don’t despair: there is a time of ease coming in Heaven and our great reward is better than anything we could ever imagine here on earth!
As Christians, we have a unique opportunity presented to us. God has asked us to be a part of changing the world, to advance His Kingdom in a place that is completely unwelcoming. As Michael says in today’s message, this is one of the greatest things we could ever be a part of! The Kingdom of God is moving through the nations and we can get on board at any moment! The ride isn’t going to always be smooth, but the ability to be a part of something so grand is completely worth every second!
Sometimes we may feel that, though we are Christians, we may not be as good at it as someone else and we don’t deserve the things promised to Christians in the Bible. However, Michael shows us how untrue those feelings are. When we accept Christ’s sacrifice on the cross as our only means of Salvation, and surrender our lives to furthering His purpose, we become part of the Body of Christ. Today’s message is a great reminder of God’s love for His people, imperfections and all!
What does being filled with the Holy Spirit mean to you? Today’s message focuses on the idea that being filled with the Spirit can be witnessed, and will be witnessed by everyone! John the Baptist was just such a person, and it was obvious to everyone in his day that he was operating under the influence of the Holy Spirit! Michael asks us to examine our own lives today too, and take a look at how we are being seen by others. If our lives revolve around the Holy Spirit, it will be evident to all!
