Last year she was a bartender. Last week, she defeated the incumbent Democrat and won the primary for New York’s 14 Congressional District with over 57% of the vote. She is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, an unapologetic socialist who is 28 years of age, and she wants you to become a socialist too. You know it’s a sign of the times when socialism is sexy in America. People are confused, big-time.
Meet socialism, America’s new savior. At least that’s the poison many are swallowing. The rise of socialism, from Bernie Sanders to Ocasio-Cortez should be alarming to anyone interested in freedoms of speech, religion, and private ownership of just about anything. If you think the government is the solution to our problems, you’ll love socialism. Ronald Reagan rightly observed, “Government isn’t the solution to our problems; government is the problem.”
“If you want to give to the poor and needy, give to the poor and needy. Do it yourself — and in the process you’ll find deep satisfaction and a greater return on your investment. Whenever government gets involved, efficiency decreases.”
Socialism is the precursor to Marxism, which gets its name from Karl Marx, it’s founder. Marx, along with his friend and financial supporter, Frederick Engels, published The Communist Manifesto in 1848. Listen to what J.F. Baldwin, author of The Deadliest Monster (a great world-view primer) observes about socialism and communism:
“Marxist theory is based on economic determinism — a view of history that assumes that a nation’s government and all its societal institutions, and even each citizen’s consciousness, are determined by the economic system of that nation.” Marxists believe that capitalism is woefully inferior to communism, “the only economic system that can create the foundation for paradise. Everyone ‘poisoned’ by the capitalist mentality must submit to (or be destroyed by) the working class, which will establish a socialistic dictatorship that will eventually evolve into communism” (pages 44-45).
WHO DO YOU KNOW WHO NEEDS TO WATCH/READ THIS BLOG?
According to Marxism, “Man . . . is a perfectible being who only requires the right economic system to get in touch with his basic goodness. People in capitalistic societies cannot really be blamed for their actions, because their attitudes are tainted by a primitive economic system. Once worldwide communism is achieved, there will be no need for laws and governments, because everyone will freely choose to act properly all the time. At that time, each man will work according to his ability, and receive according to his needs” (p. 44).
Yeah, right. This flies in the face of biblical teaching — and history. And common sense.
Baldwin explains that “Many modern radicals have ‘re-interpreted’ Marxism to suit their own cause. Marx described the oppression of the working class by wealthier classes as the chief evil, but new radicals choose other kinds of ‘oppression’ as the driving force behind their worldview: whites oppressing minorities, men oppressing women, heterosexuals oppressing homosexuals, etc.” (p. 44).
SOCIALISM: A CHRIST-LESS CHRISTIANITY
What does socialism have to do with Christianity? Nothing. Literally. It’s important to understand this, because people in America are angry, disenfranchised, and looking for a way out — a “savior.” Communism and socialism replace Christ and God as the center of every aspect of life with government and institutions. They, not Jesus, become the providers of everything people need — they become the “Lord and Savior” of the people. People are compelled, not encouraged, to surrender rights, possessions and desires to the government and her leaders, all in the name of helping the fellow citizen.
Ironically, socialists in America demonize what they refer to as the “1%” of the population — but all they are doing is attempting to shift control to themselves, where they will be the ones in position, empowered by a socialistic form of government that will enable them to tell the masses what to do and how to do it. It’s a classic form of hypocrisy — but it’s far more than that — and you should be more than concerned. You should resist it at every turn.
IGNORANCE IS NOT BLISS. IT’S ENSLAVEMENT.
According to the “Annual Report on U.S. Attitudes Toward Socialism,” published by the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, a 2017 poll found that “58 percent of millenials preferred to live in a communist, socialist of fascist nation rather than a capitalistic one” (The Washington Times, November 4, 2017).
Marion Smith, executive director of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, said the report “shows millenials are ‘increasingly turning away from capitalism and toward socialism and even communism as a viable alternative. This troubling turn highlights widespread historical illiteracy in American society regarding socialism and the systemic failure of our education system to teach students about the genocide, destruction, and misery caused by communism since the Bolshevik Revolution one hundred years ago.'”
Only 33 percent of millenials in the poll were able to properly define socialism. Only 51 percent were able to correctly define capitalism as the “economic system based on free markets and the rule of law with legal protections for private ownership.”
GIVE . . . FREELY
The Bible teaches that the human heart is “desperately wicked” not good (Jeremiah 17:9). Neither socialism nor capitalism are cures for the condition of the human heart. Only Jesus is. When it comes to socialism and its rise in America, would you rather be forced to give up your possessions, your income and your freedoms of speech and religious expression to a government that will then determine how to use them for their definition of “good”? Do you think the government will get a better return on your dollar than you will? Of course it won’t.
If you want to give to the poor and needy, give to the poor and needy. Do it yourself — and in the process you’ll find deep satisfaction and a greater return on your investment. Whenever government gets involved, efficiency decreases. Whenever government gets involved, efficiency decreases — and so does personal satisfaction.
Socialism is not America’s savior. Ask the people in China, Russia, Cuba and in any other socialist or communist nation. There are good reasons why people want to come to America — because this is the land where people have had, at least until now, the greatest opportunity, comparatively speaking, to be free.
