MOST OF THE TIME, WHEN WE THINK OF “SPIRITUAL WARFARE” WE THINK OF OPPOSITION FROM THE DEVIL AND DEMONS – BUT THIS IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE. The Bible tells us how to successfully resist the devil %100 of the time. The truth is, the devil is not always the one who should concern us. There are times when God Himself can be resisting us. This is the ultimate form of spiritual warfare – an exercise in futility – because no one has ever resisted God and come out a winner.
James 4:7 is the classic verse with which most believers are familiar:
1 Peter 5:9 says this:
Even the youngest of believers can successfully resist the most ancient of dark entities by standing strong in Christ. But what is often lost in the discussion about spiritual warfare is the reality of James 4:6-7:
And 1 Peter 5:5-6 reinforces this, saying:
Yes, even the youngest of believers can successfully resist the devil and his henchmen – but nobody has ever resisted God and come out a winner. Nobody. Interestingly, the books of James and 1 Peter are written to believers. It’s possible for a believer to experience the ultimate spiritual warfare experience: resistance from Almighty God. If God is resisting you, no resistance in return will rectify the situation.
The way we invite divine resistance is through pride, the original – and root – of all sin. A simple, powerful way to understand pride is resistance to God. When we resist God, He resists us. Our resistance in such circumstances is entirely futile. Humility is the opposite of pride . . .
WHY NOT HUMBLE YOURSELF BEFORE GOD BY NO LONGER RESISTING HIM? COULD IT BE THAT GOD IS RESISTING YOU BECAUSE OF YOUR OWN PRIDE? HAVE YOU BLAMED THE DEVIL FOR OPPOSTION THAT MAY ACTUALLY BE COMING FROM GOD? ARE YOU IN ANY WAY RESISTING GOD?
